The most important lesson learnt in UIR will be research skills. Before this subject, I only use Yahoo or Google website for research and I cannot really identify which type of website is more suitable for my topic and I spent more time doing research. After I attend this subject, I learnt of many different search facilities, types of websites and I can also tell if the website is of a reliable source. This saves a lot of my research time and I am able to get more useful information using shorter time. Thanks to UIR!

We had our quiz this week and I wasn’t prepared for it. I did not know which topic to study so I studied only topic 4 & 5. I failed the quiz. A lot of the questions came out from topic 6 and I had no idea what that was about. After the quiz, my group leader got the links from us and did the bibliographies for the Wiki.

This week I have to access my group’s Wiki to submit our comment and I found the impact of drug abuse.
It affects your brain. It can cause mind and mood changes such as anxiety, euphoria, and depression. Long-term effects can include chronic fatigue, paranoid or delusional thinking, and permanent psychological damage.
It affects your body. It increases the heart rate, blood pressure, and risk of stroke. Some may reduce the rate of lung growth and the level of maximum lung function that can be achieved.
It affects your self-control. It may be very addictive as some contains nicotine (a powerfully addictive substance). They will find it hard to quit after they continue to abuse drugs.
It can kill you. An overdose of drugs can result in heart failure. Long-term physical effects such as liver, kidney, and lung damage may also kill you.

Upon completing this practical, I went into OLE discussion board to post my reply to the question. “Briefly explain how Internet has enriched your academic life. Illustrate your answer using at least ONE Internet resource you had learnt in UIR”.
I believe all polytechnic students are very dependent on internet. I cannot live my academic life without the use of internet. It is very important to me because I use it to do researches for my projects. The information in the internet is readily available; there is no need for me to go to the library to research for the materials. Thus it saves a lot of my time and I can spend more time online doing researches.
One of the search facilities I've learnt is
www.google.com search engine. Through UIR, I learnt more about google website and the features it had to enhance my keyword search. Features such as the filter and boolean operators allow me to narrow my search to make it more specific and of higher relevancy.
With the use of internet, I can save time, energy, and gain more knowledge.
